Otep was created as part of a Dungeons and Dragons roleplaying experiment. Specifically how well could a campaign work if a years worth of stories were distilled down into 6 sessions in which the party goes from saving a town from the forces of nature to saving the world from a primordial beast of Chaos and the Abyssal Forces shaping it.
The next experiment shifted the timeline forward 500 years to a world where the legacy of the previous characters had shaped civilization. It introduced a new form of Roleplaying, a Tabletop RPG without the table. Similar in many ways to a LARP, this game ran for a week at Allegheny College as players schemed, planned, and fought in an attempt to stop a demonic conspiracy and claim the title of Emperors Champion.
Since then Otep has returned to being a tabletop setting for Dungeons and Dragons. Several people besides myself have run games and it continues to grow and change. In many ways Otep has become the default setting for games at Allegheny College.
I am continuously delighted by how much people enjoy this setting and want to be a part of it or contribute to it. Thank you everyone for your continued support.
